estate vineyard

More than a vineyard, we are surrounded by a unique forest sanctuary in the Russian River Valley AVA. Here we create wines for tomorrow using soil derived from the movement of an ancient inland sea.

the land

Our estate vineyard

Tobias Glen, our estate vineyard, is a 19-acre parcel located in one of the most cherished cool-climate micro regions of the Russian River Valley AVA in Sonoma County.

Tucked in a secluded valley and surrounded by an ecological forest sanctuary of heritage oak and fir, this bucolic, sustainably-farmed estate is ideally suited for prouducing world class Pinot Noir.

past

Formed by ancient sea

The predominant soil type is Goldridge, derived from an ancient inland sea that slowly emptied into the Pacific Ocean. Its excellent drainage and low soil fertility allow us to create a balanced vineyard ecosystem yielding exceptional high quality fruit, even in challenging vintages.

Yearly applications of organic compost supplement the Goldridge soil and enable the vines to have a better natural balance while expressing the unique terroir of the property.

present

Saved from demolition

The fate of Tobias Glen was forever changed from being demolished and turned into a real estate development when our parent company, California Wineries & Vineyards (CWV), acquired it in 2015.

The vines grown here are an ideal cool region mixture of Dijon clones, and produce grapes with distinctive violet flavors and a rich, soft tannin structure. Four acres are planted to Pinot Noir, while the rest remain as a conservation forest.

future

Sustainably grown

Tobias Glen Vineyard proudly earned California Certified Sustainable status in 2019, 2020, and 2021. Participating vineyards receive third-party auditor verification that they are adopting and implementing stringent winegrowing requirements based on the industry’s code of best practices. Areas addressed by vineyards in the program include protection of air and water, energy efficiency, strong relationships with employees and neighbors, responsible pest management, and more. We are committed to maintaining our sustainability efforts on a daily basis.
